Welcome friends. A Jug of White Daisies is about my life and all the thoughts that come to me while I'm walking, doing the dishes, having a shower or hanging washing on the line - some of my regular activities that give me time to think. It's about all the things that make up my life - cooking, cleaning, creating, loving, learning, discovering, rolling my eyes, sighing, smiling, forgiving, making do, making the most of, looking up, gardening, hugging, being. It's about the things that I make for sale, fabulous finds, the wisdom and beauty in the world, and it's about stopping to admire the simple perfection of daisies.

And in amongst all the thinking and writing about that, I'll be doing it all, and more, so if you don't see me for a day or two, please send chocolate.

New Dishes

Another year, another hope that I will make something of this blog and actually record my very quiet but somehow full life. I live a small life, defined by my daughter's disability and her care, but I like my life, despite or maybe because of the pace of it. I am, in some ways, one of the lucky ones. I get to stay at home and do gardening, cooking, sewing, cat patting, reading, furniture restoration and such things, even if it is interspersed with drama not of my choosing. My sister is always so busy, there's so much crammed into her days it makes my head spin. I get to take it slower, which I really appreciate.

I am going through all my old recipe books, the many collected snippets from magazines or friends and family, supermarket magazines, website downloads, etc - all those things that look good, but just get filed for "one day". I am typing up the ones I love, and the ones I am pretty sure I will actually make, (and not the ones that look good but I'm not really going to do). I'm planning on ditching all the snippets and books and magazines and printouts, and only have the ones I will make. This all started a while ago and it's very time consuming, also, daunting.... I confess I have a ridiculous amount of the things here! But slowly, the new recipe book is coming together, gathered from all corners and mostly without knowing the original writer anymore. One of the twists of this all, is converting the recipes to be gluten free, dairy free, nut free and low-ish fat, for our various sensitivities as I go. Yay us, we are SO easy to feed, lol!

And, just for fun, this year I plan on making at least one new recipe every week. I'm ahead this week, with two brand new ones tried already - and both SO delicious they are firmly in the "make often" category. Yesterday I made a tuna and pasta dish and tonight a beetroot and sausage dish. Yeah, maybe not the most exciting sounding things, but they were both really delicious! My husband might even have moaned a little with delight. I like that.

Maybe tomorrow I'll try a new cake.

love Heather x
